If we as human beings ever intend to carry on a rational discourse about any topic, it is absolutely imperative that people on both sides of the argument employ common sense. There’s no point in two people with opposing viewpoints who are debating the substantive issues of the day comparing apples to oranges. In fact, when either of them does so, it is an intellectually dishonest move and an exercise in futility.

When discussing war, for example; The “war on drugs” isn’t really a war. Neither is the “war on poverty.” The US military isn’t burning South American coca fields and toppling their tenuous dictatorships or bringing aid on the backs of M1-Abrams tanks to African nations wallowing in the filth of poverty.Likewise, regardless of the opinions of Cindy Sheehan and many tenure-track university professors, George Bush isn’t a tyrant. He may have screwed up the Iraq war and he may be the most inarticulate President we’ve had in some time, but he isn’t a tyrant by any stretch of the imagination and he isn’t the anti-Christ. He isn’t guilty of the systematic oppression and murder of thousands that fits the label “tyrant”.

And so it is with the term “Hitler”. Liberal activists often use it as a pejorative to describe anyone they disagree with, particularly George Bush or Republicans. Lest we forget, the Nazis were responsible for the systematic rounding up, deportation, incarceration, torture and extermination of six milion Jewish people. So unless we’re eventually planning the mass executions of millions of Mexican day laborers, Carla Vela of the Bexar County, Texas Democratic Party should be ashamed of herself for her despicable comparison. She is nothing more than an agitator, trying to whip up anti-US sentiment among the immigrant population and her comments should be disavowed publicly by the national Democratic Party.

The gall of some people never ceases to amaze me. This country has opened itself as well as its wallet up to immigrants for decades; yet when we attempt to enforce existing laws against organized crime –that just happens to involve many of the people the US Senate is about to bestow citizenship upon– they use terms like “Hitler” to describe the people we entrust to uphold our laws.

Just who was she referring to specifically? George Bush? When it comes to immigration, I think not. He has bent over backwards to accomodate and facilitate illegal immigration with a wink and a nod. Michael Chertoff ? Hardly. He hasn’t even been on the job long enough to gain that type of reputation. Attorney General Alberto Gonzales? Probably not.

This type of name calling is not only highly historically inaccurate, it is also counter-productive to the immmigrant rights movement and highly offensive to patriotic Americans, Jews, Israelis and veterans of World War II.It is an affront to our fathers and grandfathers who died or gave limbs fighting REAL Nazi tyrrany. To have an advocate for illegal immigration and a local Texas Democratic Pary Chair engage in this childish name-calling minimizes the sacrifice made by these proud men in fighting Hitler and shows the depths to which some people will descend in order to portray Americans as greedy tyrants and racists.

After thirty years of being invaded, people are finally beginning to wake up, but the actions of illegal immigration sympathizers show that unless we act immediately to counter this threat, it may be too late. Simply by beginning to enforce existing immigration law and arrest ID theives and other felons in our midst, in the eyes of the Bexar County Democratic Party, we are the Nazi Party; the supporters and enablers of Hitler. And this is a comparison that I will no longer allow to be made unchallenged.
