Democrats Are Very Fonda US Soldiers
Democrats continue to hide their disdain for America’s military. But every now and then, it seeps out into the open. Despite their phony expressions of support, they will never convince this veteran that they are serious about us or the national security of this nation. With very few exceptions, Democrats have collectively become the anti-war party. The party of Jane Fonda, who once strapped on a Vietnamese anti-aircraft weapon and giggled in support of North Vietnam. And their rhetoric is beginning to reflect it. Consider this plethora of recent examples:
1). Last weekend, Hillary Clinton tripped over her tongue in her effort to woo voters in New Hampshire. She promised to end the war if elected. But not to end the war based on the improving situation on the ground, a political compromise or other strategic consideration. No, she would just end the war. As a matter of fact she went one further and stated that if any Democrat were elected the war would end.
2). Also last weekend, Senator Barack Hussein Obama (D-IL) said that the lives of over 3,000 Americans were “wasted”[1]. He later attempted to retract the remark by calling it a slip of the tongue. Precisely. A Freudian slip of the tongue whilst trying to whip the crowd into an anti-war frenzy which backfired.
3). On February 9th, 2007, following in the rat tracks of the Washington Post, Alan Colmes, the liberal half of the popular Hannity and Colmes show further prejudiced the trials of the 8 Marines accused of murder in Haditha, Iraq, by stating that there had been confessions and convictions in these cases that have yet to go to trial. Colmes eventually apologized after 3 days of pressure from the families of these men and their supporters, but the harm cannot be undone. The trials of 8 Marines have forever been tainted by the actions of John Murtha and Alan Colmes.
4). Rep. C.A “Dutch” Ruppersberger (D-MD) went on the Sunday talk show circuit last weekend and articulated the Democratic Party’s attitude towards national security and military matters. He said the the purpose of debate on a House resolution concerning the addition of over 20,000 reinforcements was to “assess where we were with the surge”, stressing the need for a new direction. Although the offensive is now underway, Gen. William Caldwell’s Feb. 14th press conference noted that all forces won’t be ready until late May [2], yet here was a Democratic Congressman labeling the effort a failure only a few days into operations, before the crackdown had even commenced. In an exchange between Ruppersberger and Rep. John Shadegg (R-AZ), Shadegg reiterated al Qaeda’s intentions to attack US interests worldwide and asked Ruppersberger simply “if we won’t go after al Qaeda here [in Iraq], where will we go after them?”
Ruppersberger’s response:
He stated that we had gone after al Qaeda in Somalia.
He’s technically correct. We sent AC-130 Spectre gunships to Somalia and probably some other limited capabilities; a great strategy for killing a few high-value targets. But much like Bill Clinton’s Tomahawk missile strikes on a Sudanese pharmaceutical factory and some empty terror camps, entirely inadequate for defeating global jihad.
5). US soldiers on the ground in Iraq interviewed by ABC news said they were sickened upon hearing of this debate back home [3], proving that it does reach them and is perceived negatively by at least some of them.
6). Media reports indicate that Muqtada al Sadr, the Iraqi slumlord who caused the US so much heartburn, fled Iraq upon hearing that US reinforcements were set to arrive. If true, it would show yet again that the only thing terrorists respect is violence.
7). Sensing weakness and division in the US, al Qaeda called for attacks on US oil interests worldwide, including Canada, Mexico, Venezuela, Saudi Arabia and elsewhere.
No matter how hard Democrats try, they cannot separate the killing from the people who are doing it. Nor can they express support for our soldiers, then deny them the reinforcements they need to complete their mission and blame it all on George Bush. There is mounting evidence that the anti-war message being propagated by Democrats is both emboldening our enemy and having a noticeable effect on the soldiers actually doing the fighting, which calls into question their commitment to our men and women in uniform.
