Democrats are perpetually beating the drum of support for our military men and women. They try and hide it with all of their might, but the true contempt they hold for our nation’s military always seems to escape from the lips of those who speak for the party itself. As a veteran, I consider their insults morally repugnant.
Last year, they screamed for change in Iraq, threatening to pull the plug by whatever means necessary. They purposefully avoided using terms like “withdrawal” or (more accurately) “retreat” to describe what they sought from the President. They said they had a mandate: a “change of course” and a “redeployment”. President Bush gave them both in the form of thousands of extra soldiers to hand the Iraqi government and military some breathing room.
Even before the buildup began, our fearless leaders “Premature Withdrawal” Reid, “Highway of Death” Clinton, “Cold-blooded” Murtha, “Turban” Durbin, “Scumbag” Schumer” and “The Menace” Kucinich began a campaign of lies, insults and outright denials that continues to ebb and flow along with the political wind.
Despite the impending release of the progress report by General David Petraeus and Ryan Crocker which will decide the future of Iraq, Democrats have already condemned the report before its release, mockingly referring to it as “the Bush Report” and saying they already know what’s in it. This is from the party that incessantly pontificates about not rushing to judgment…
This type of patronization is a direct insult to Petraeus, who incidentally oversaw the development of the US Army’s updated Counterinsurgency Field Manual. He is considered by some to be one of the Army’s brightest minds. Interestingly enough, in a 1978 thesis, Petraeus wrote of nagging suspicions of the motives of civilian leadership among the rank and file. The same suspicions existed two decades ago and there’s no evidence to believe anything has changed.
Last week on the Senate floor, Senator Charles Schumer insulted every US Marine who has ever fought in Anbar Province by falsely claiming that their valiant efforts as well as the recent addition of reinforcements had absolutely nothing to do with why spastic violence there suddenly ceased and it turned in to one of the safest areas in the country.
True, Iraqis there finally rejected extremism, but Schumer oversimplifies the explanation. The reality is that Muslims in the Middle East gravitate towards the center of power, which is why there are still so many tribal areas in these countries dominated by warlords. Once there were enough soldiers and Marines on the ground in Anbar to seize the initiative and actually ensure security, the terrorists were neutralized, killed, captured or they fled and peace was restored. Brave men have fought, died, been maimed, charged, tried, convicted of crimes and imprisoned because their country asked them to fight terror in Anbar Province; and a sitting US Senator has the brazen audacity to deny the recent change is due to the surge in US soldiers. Well, at least he denied it during remarks on the Senate floor and not whilst playing footsie in the airport toilet…
Rep. Dennis Kucinich paid a visit to charming Syrian dictator Bashar Assad, among other stops in the Middle East while proudly proclaiming to Arab media that he refused to bless our soldiers in Iraq with his foul presence because he believes our “occupation” -despite being the current guests of a sovereign Iraqi government- was illegal. Well then Dennis, I don’t want to hear another peep out of you about what’s going on on the battlefield or in the streets of Iraq, because you refuse to accept objective facts.
Despite the actions of some of their colleagues such as Brian Baird (D-WA), many Democrats are frantically searching for a way to appease their antiwar constituencies and beat a hasty retreat, irrespective of human cost or moral consequences. Baird previously voted to withdraw from Iraq, but since going there to objectively judge whether or not progress has been made, he has had a change of heart. He now believes we should continue the mission or risk a greater disaster; my position from the beginning of this horror. Baird is now coming under withering attack from MoveOn.org for his moral courage.
Finally, Harry Reid -under extreme pressure from antiwar groups- has backtracked 180° and is now engaged in a game of quid pro quo with Republicans, willing to work out a compromise rather than call for his original withdrawal deadline. There can be NO compromise with a political party intent on legislating an American military defeat.
LET THE GENERALS DECIDE DAMN YOU!
