Two hundred thirty-three years ago, a ragtag group of brave patriots fought for and won our independence from the British crown. And once they had secured their freedom, they carefully established a system of government with checks and balances to ensure that centralized tyranny could never again establish a foothold in their country. And until recently, it worked quite well. But, those checks and balances are disappearing at an alarming rate, and along with them, go many of our freedoms.
A recurring theme with the Obama Administration, and the way in which he gets Americans to cede control is to get them to believe that everything is a full-blown crisis. I refer you to the words of Rahm Emmanuel:
”Never let a good crisis go to waste.”
And if some American institution isn’t in crisis, it will be, absent immediate federal intervention, thanks to the Bush Administration.
The census, the economy, the environment, domestic energy and fuel policy, the credit industry, the auto industry, the housing market and health care. He either controls, or is attempting to control some aspect of them all and we’re only six months into his term.
Obama often used words like “catastrophe” to describe our economic recession and warned of imminent doom and nine percent unemployment if his stinkulus wasn’t passed immediately. I said at the time, that government couldn’t spend money that quickly, only waste it. Well, it’s been a solid quarter since he signed it, and there has been lots of waste reported, but the economic climate hasn’t improved much. In fact, unemployment has risen even further than Obama projected and is still rising, being a lagging indicator of both recession and recovery.
Economists are already pointing to a few signs we may be easing out of the funk, yet all Obama has managed to do is fund a few “shovel-ready” projects. The vast majority of stinkulus money remains to be spent, begging the question whether this wasn’t simply a blip on the economic radar that was or will soon be made worse because of federal intervention, rather than in spite of it.
Obama now holds sway over several American financial and auto companies. He can (and has) dictated their leadership and their compensation. And he can force out who he doesn’t like, simply by saying he lacks confidence in their ability, or that they are somehow “confused and disoriented”, like he did with Gerald Walpin, his Inspector General for the Corporation National and Community Service, who got a little too close for Obama’s comfort during a fraud investigation. In the process of throwing Walpin under the bus, Obama violated his own legislation.
Absent a large Democrat defection and filibuster in the Senate, Obama is also about to control and tax every source of domestic energy we have, which will negatively impact our lives in very dramatic ways by raising the cost of everything that consumes or is produced by energy.
This megalomaniac is even girding for control over what fuels we use in our cars, businesses and factories, what types of bulbs will light our homes and workplaces and even what we can use to sweeten what we eat. He is pushing for draconian taxes on energy, sugar and/or high fructose corn syrup.
In his quest for power over the health care industry, Barack Obama again pre-screened questions from Democrat Party activists and then used the media to mislead us by reporting on those planted questions.
Should America prescribe ObamaCare, he’s going to dictate that, as a private citizen, you must pay for and possess medical insurance or pay the price. And as an employer, if you don’t provide insurance you too will have to pay. He also wants to dictate the terms and cost of that insurance coverage, deciding which treatments are most cost-effective, and therefore permitted, and which ones are not.
And while he vies for control of what seems to be every American center of power, he does so without even an appearance of honesty.
- He broke his promise on a week of sunlight before bill signings. He now posts vague summaries with little detail
- He broke his promise not to raise taxes. Cap and trade is a tax on everyone and everything.
- He broke his promise on the employment of lobbyists in his administration.
- He broke his promise on earmark reform.
- He broke his promise on transparency. He goes right along with Congressional Democrats, who deliberately leave specifics out of draft legislation to avoid scrutiny. He won’t release even the most innocuous personal records and he illegally fired Gerald Walpin.
I don’t really care how many times Barack Obama has been the subject of nocturnal emissions in the mainstream media. They aren’t exactly objective purveyors of fact, have trashed journalistic ethics and are pushing the bounds of legality. Like last weekend, when someone at the Washington Post circulated a flier that promised that lobbyists could gain access to, and rub elbows with Washington Post editorial staff and Obama Administration officials in return for money.
Our freedoms are under attack like never before. While Tea Parties may make us feel great, they’re entirely ineffective when no one in Washington is listening. Our only chance to stop the erosion of liberty and the continuing expanse of federal power is to put some balance back in Congress in 2010. Until then we’re stuck with this Administration and this Congress, and the only thing “shovel ready” to come out of either has been a gigantic load of bull***t that just keeps getting bigger.
