NY Times: The Record of Paper

Media Bias, Politics

The New York Times; The Paper of Record; The home of all the news that’s fit to print has finally executed the ambush of John McCain that they have been planning for months.

Last Thursday’s hit piece, entitled “For McCain, Self-Confidence on Ethics Poses Its Own Risk” was long on rehashing decades-old charges of corruption and ties to Charles Keating, while devoid of all but insinuation and innuendo when it comes to the article’s substantive charge of a McCain affair with 40 year-old telecommunications lobbyist Linda Iseman.

There’s a Reason They Call It Berserkley

Military/War, Political Correctness, Society/Culture

“This fight is about war” - Bay Area Code Pink

The Berkeley, California City Council has declared war on the US Marine Corps.

On January 29, 2007, the Peace and Justice Commission of the Berkeley City Council recommended that the City Manager study the city’s options for running the US Marine Corps out of Berkeley. The recommendation referred to the Marines as a “violent influence”, directed the City Manager to send letters to the Shattuck Avenue Marine Corps recruiting station and the Commandant of the Corps telling them that the recruiting office was not welcome in their city and threatening the Marines that if they chose to stay in Berkeley, that they did so as uninvited and unwelcome intruders.

The Little Massacre That Could…

Crime and Punishment, Haditha, Military/War, Political Correctness, Terrorism

“I think I can, I think I can, I think I can…”

Americans know that without the sacrifices of our military, we’d soon bow to Mecca. We send phone cards and care packages to soldiers overseas. We focus vast resources on rehabilitating our combat wounded and employing our returning vets.

But while America opens its wallet to these men and pours out its heart for the wounded and the fallen, lost in the chatter are the political casualties of the Iraq war; brave men such as USMC 1st Lieutenant Andrew Grayson.

Grayson - 26,  is charged with obstruction of justice and making false official statements surrounding his alleged destruction of some 70 photographs the military contends were proof of the Little Massacre That Could in Haditha, Iraq in November of 2005. He is also charged with attempted fraudulent separation from the Marine Corps. Grayson’s trial is scheduled for May 2008.

Massacres and Murders and Suicides, Oh My!

Media Bias, Military/War

“Until they come to grips with how long and frequent deployments are straining soldiers and shattering lives we will continue to see this frightening trend” - Lie of the week from Senator Patty Murray (D-WA)

The mainstream media’s propaganda war against the US military continues…

For years, the alphabet news networks, the New York Times, the AP and Reuters have been steadily beating the drum of defeat - spewing enemy propaganda and generally doing everything in their power to sap support at home for our military efforts abroad.

A few weeks ago, I published a piece on the New York Times’ fascination with military murders. Last week an AP writer had a fetish with military suicides. At some point, one has to ask why they’re so agog over the deaths of US military members?

Auto-Economic Asphyxiation

Political Correctness, Politics, Society/Culture

Politicians always subscribe to the theory that throwing money at a problem, regardless of whether the money is ever even used to fix it, is always the solution to said problem. They never concern themselves with the actual implementation of their “fixes”. They simply allocate our money to federal agencies tasked with carrying out their wishes and their job is done. Yet another problem solved.

The economic stimulus package being jointly crafted by the President and the House is not the answer to our problems. It may not help. In fact, it may exacerbate our economic woes. It is by no means a done deal and must pass in the Senate, which signalled that they wanted it expanded.

In its current form, this socialist tripe; this stimulus package consists of tax rebates to 117 million Americans; Six hundred dollars to individuals who earn up to $75,000.00 and $1,200.00 + $300.00 per child for families who earn up to $150,000.00. People or families with incomes above those thresholds (who ironically pay the vast majority of income taxes) will see their rebates shrink as their income rises. Families with incomes above $200,000.00 don’t get squat.

Times Like These

Media Bias, Military/War

With success taking shape in Iraq,  liberal journalists don’t have much to talk about. Unable to impugn the reputation of the military on the battlefield, the New York Times has again resorted to the character assassination of our armed forces here at home.

Both Iraq and Afghanistan have seen Americans awarded the Medal of Honor. There have been stories of selfless sacrifice; of Navy SEaLs exposing themselves to direct enemy fire to radio help for their team or Marines who instinctively hurl themselves on enemy grenades without hesitation. There have been missions where US Army soldiers were compromised by civilians, their missions ending with dead teammates because rather than neutralizing these threats, which would  both assure mission secrecy and be well within their rules of engagement, these gallant US soldiers chose to let them live.

But if you believe The New York Times’ Deborah Sontag and Lizette Alvarez,  the US military is nothing more than a ragtag collection of drunkards, wife beaters, drug abusers, criminals and murderers.

The Hillary I Know

Politics

Much discussion has centered around whether Hillary Clinton actually possesses human qualities such as empathy, emotion or likability In other words, things that translate to electability. She has faced so much criticism –and deservedly so– I often wonder whether she’s even a real human being with flesh and blood underneath that exoskeleton, or just some kind of grotesque machine like Mecha-Streisand™; with servos, wires and circuits; factory preprogrammed as a calculating political machine.

There has been so much discussion about her likability during this campaign, that she had to launch a website called “The Hillary I Know” in order to dispel what the media calls rumors and prove that there are actual people that like her.

You Can Fool Some of the People…

Politics

The caucus-goers in Iowa have caucused. Mike Huckabee and Barack Obama get the Iowa nod. But Iowa isn’t New Hampshire. Or Florida. Or California. It is but the first in a series of contests the candidates must win in order to capture the presidency and there’s still a long, circuitous trek from the rural roads of Iowa to Pennsylvania Avenue.

Although Huckabee took Iowa, it is not yet clear if he can sustain the momentum he has. He was essentially handed a victory by a large bloc of evangelical voters despite several foreign policy gaffes and revelations of a less than stellar record (conservatively speaking) on illegal immigration, taxes and crime. Mike Huckabee may be able to fool some of the people some of the time, but he certainly can’t fool them all. Voters in states like California are too smart to invest much equity in Huckabee’s House of Baloney. His shenanigans in the run-up to Iowa may work with those predisposed to vote for him already, but not to the general public.

‘Twas The Night Before Christmas

Politics

‘Twas the night before Christmas and all through the House
“Not a Congressman toils…” the people did grouse.
The legislation lay there in a magnificent pile,
while the Democrats bleat “It’s George Bush I revile…”

Led by Queen Nancy with Clyburn the Whip
keeping tabs on the faithful should one of them slip
and vote with Republicans on immigration or war
why, the Queen and her Whip would settle the score.

The Democrats’ Jesus Smackdown

Politics, Society/Culture

As long as Democrats have been engaged in the war against Christmas there have been denials.

Despite years of documented proof such as the government prohibition of public Nativity scenes and other Christian displays, “Seasons Greetings” replacing traditional salutations such as “Merry Christmas”, “Winter break” replacing Christmas break and ad nauseam attacks on Santa, liberals still deny they are at war with Jesus. Well there are now at least nine members of Congress who can no longer deny their true feelings because this time they actually went on record voting against Christ.

CAIR Savages The First Amendment

In the Media, Terrorism

And kill them wherever you find them, and drive them out from whence they drove you out, and persecution is severer than slaughter, and do not fight with them at the Sacred Mosque until they fight with you in it, but if they do fight you, then slay them; such is the recompense of the unbelievers. Qur’an: Sura 2:191

Together, the 1st and 2nd Amendments make up the last line of defense between the American people and tyranny, whether it be the tyranny of foreign invaders, international and homegrown terrorists, or our own federal government. By calling for irrevocable freedom of expression in the very 1st amendment, The Founders obviously made clear that they held the free exchange of information in highest esteem.

The Joke’s On Us

Politics

The 2008 primary season has barely begun and already there are more ugly examples of campaign shenanigans on both sides than ever before. It matters not that voters have consistently voiced their desire to hear the candidates’ positions on the issues; all we get is the occasional self-aggrandized version of one’s record, followed by copious attacks on their opponent’s records topped off with personal attacks on the opponents themselves by private investigators and muckrakers of every stripe.

Let’s have a look at what a few of the leading candidates are up to so you can make an informed decision about which Americans may not be the best president.

Hong Kong, Phooey!

Military/War, Politics, Society/Culture

Although the threat of annihilation from Islamic terrorism is center stage, other threats are just as immediate, such as the economic, technological and chemical warfare being visited upon us by China. These threats, while not as sensational and perhaps not as overtly deadly, nevertheless require us to be just as vigilant.

While your government continues its failed strategy of economic and political engagement to try and convince China of our benign intentions, the Chinese simply continue down the same path of foolishness they have been on for decades, taking offense at every perceived slight. First it was our support of Taiwan. Then it was our Navy aircrew whom the Chinese held captive over their claim that their airspace was violated. Now it’s the president awarding the Congressional Gold Medal to the Dalai Lama that is proffered by the media as the excuse du jour for the latest Chinese temper tantrum.

A Day Late and a Dullard Short

Military/War, Politics

“We look pretty silly when we lecture Baghdad on being in political stalemate and insist on staying in one ourselves.” - Sen. Lamar Alexander (R-TN).

No matter how hard Democrats try; No matter how many worthless resolutions they pass; No matter how many times they try to pull the rug out from under our soldiers, their seditious efforts are doomed to failure.

Despite beginning the drawdown for at least 5 of 15 Army combat brigades due to recent tactical successes, House Democrats conjured up another funding proposal that puts the screws to our military by making supplemental war funding contingent upon a rapid withdrawal. But once again, the measure fell short of the bulletproof majority needed to stop a Republican filibuster. Senate Republicans are again siding with the President and calling for a “clean bill” with no timetables. As punishment for the President’s obstinance, Democrats won’t bring the measure up again until next year, implementing the slow bleed approach and draining military coffers of their operating budgets until our men have no more bullets to fight with. Defense Secretary Gates has signaled that would mean the layoffs of thousands of civilian DoD employees, frozen contracts and cutbacks.

“Obama Nation”, or Abomination?

Politics

Ask Joe Biden and he’ll tell you that Barack Obama is the first clean, articulate African-American with a real chance at the White House… Ask the average American and they’ll tell you he’s a Senator from Illinois and he’s written a few books… Ask the pundits and many will tell you he has a legitimate shot at the Presidency because of voter dissatisfaction with incumbents… Ask me and I’ll tell you an Obama Presidency; indeed what’s been described as an “Obama Nation” would be an abomination. Something worthy of scorn and disdain.

Obama on patriotism:

Obama’s overriding message is that he’s an agent for change. He’s not a Washington insider. His presidency wouldn’t be the same ol’ same ol’. He pledges to be different. In an effort to further establish himself as the antiwar candidate to MoveOn.org and other socialist muckrakers who attack our military, he stopped wearing an American flag lapel pin he had put on after September 11th.
