The primary responsibility of any occupant of the White House is not to be the chief fundraiser for, or putative head of the liberal wing of the Democratic Party, but to be the Commander-In-Chief of the nation’s armed forces. Thus, nothing is more intolerable to this veteran than watching while politicians play games with the lives of US Soldiers, Sailors, Airmen and Marines currently in harm’s way, fighting what their so-called Commander-In-Chief referred to as a “war of necessity” that we must win.

As the most powerful leader on Earth, a president must wear many hats. And while Chief Executive appears to be the toughest responsibility, considering the state of our economy, I believe that Barack Obama’s biggest opportunity to screw things up is when he is donning the hat of Commander-In-Chief. As such, his primary mission is to ensure the well-being of his forces, and by extension, the safety of the country they protect. On one hand, the pen is a weapon used by our enemies to fight an asymmetrical war. A war that uses our traditions, culture, customs, tools, technology, laws and political process against us. The war in Iraq is an utter catastrophe. An abject failure. The Americans fighting there are the best warriors in the history of mankind, yet they continue to be hampered by the contortions of a deaf and dumb administration that continues to disregard established principles in favor of a shoot-from-the-hip approach.
